The Club was founded in 1971 by eleven far sighted, hard working and courageous women and named ´The San Juan English Speaking Womens Club. Winifred Ness as President and Catherine Dumbreck as Secretary.  In October 1973 the Statutes of the first Constitution were finally approved via the Civil Governor´s Office, whose duties have now been taken over by Generalitat Valenciana.

Invaluable help was received through the good offices of a well known solicitor and Secretary General of the Provincial Diputation, Don. Juan Orts Serrano an anglophile and first Club Life Member.

Members would meet at private houses followed by the renting of a large room over ´La Cumbre´ Restaurant in Playa Muchavista.
Thanks to Jan and Billie Graystone a premises was found nearby called ´Los Perales´ which offered room for expansion and was rented for a period of five years with an option to purchase during this time.
The property was purchased in July 1984 with monies derived from the many functions held since the Club´s inception as well as some non interest loans from members.
Derek Elkington as President signed the deeds and his wife Yvonne was the Secretary at that time. The Club has prospered and allows for a maximum membership of 500.
At this time we have 420 members of which 17 are Life and 3 Honorary, comprising six different nationalities all speaking English.

Activities practiced on a regular basis throughout the year

Mondays: Patchwork Classes
Tuesdays: Line Dancing (Beginners)
Wednesdays & Sundays: Social Gatherings.  Bridge Classes
Thursdays: Art Group, Line Dancing (Improvers) & Whist

Once per month we have a Quiz, Dinner Dances with live music, Sunday Luncheons and Summer BBQ´s in the garden.

The local Campello Animal Protection Society, Anglican Church, Royal British Legion and Help use the Club for their meetings and socials.  We make monetary donations every year to various non profit making Charity Organisations in Spain.

Two 6 day tours are arranged every year to different parts of Spain as well as various daily tours to local scenic and historic venues.

Our Club is in many ways unique as we own our own property and all the work and organisation is done by volunteers at no personal gain whatsoever.  Please visit us and see for yourself what we can offer you, to get better established in your newly adopted Country SPAIN and the Province of ALICANTE and it´s surrounding villages.
